Le apparenze ingannano , 2011

“Le apparenze ingannano” reflects the idea that things are not always what they seem and my continued exploration of making recognizable objects out of materials that displace or change the viewers perception and the significance of the represented object. The simple, recognizable form of the cinder block is distorted by the material: boneware clay is used instead of cement and the miniature scale shifts the viewers situation in relation to this scale. The pedestal upon which it sits furthers this notion of scale; exploring the cinder block as a relic instead of a building block commonly used in the built environment.
